 The 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) has been formally constituted and is currently in the active consultation phase. While the commission was established on November 3, 2025.

Major Demands & Projections
Employee unions and federations have submitted various proposals to the commission:

  • Minimum Basic Pay: Unions are pushing to increase the minimum basic salary from the current ₹18,000 to ₹54,000.
  • Fitment Factor: There are strong demands for a fitment factor (the multiplier used to calculate new pay) between 2.86 and 3.25. For comparison, the 7th Pay Commission used a factor of 2.57.
  • Annual Increments: Proposals include raising the annual increment rate from the current 3% to 5% or even 7%.
  • Interim Relief & DA Updates
    • DA Hike: As of March 2026, central government employees are receiving 58% Dearness Allowance (DA). A further hike of 2% is expected (effective January 2026), which would bring the total DA to 60%
